Hi, The largest yellow or mud cat I ever caught was on a small circle hook and chicken liver tied to the hook. Caught on the Mississippi river from the bank. 30 lb. mono, heavy 7' bass rod on a deep sea Spinning reel. The cat weighed a little over 25 lbs. It was so old that its side fins were worn off to the nub.

I'm a little confused,you say he was old but only weighed 25lbs. I thought cats keep growing and can live a lot longer.

How you come out? You should try fishing lake Buchannan while you're in the area. Lots of big catfish come out of there.
