We went to collect some Green lip mussels by Pohara port(Near Abel Tasman, NZ) at low tide. We also caught 2 small spotties with soft baits around the rocks.
It was a really great seafood feast.

What sort of fish is a spottie ?

Thanks, ^^. A spotty is really nice eating fish. It has white meat and tastes like flounder. Many of them are around reefs. They are not very big but the right size for eating. One spotty for one portion of a meal.    
I am sorry that you can not get it. It seems to be only available around New Zealand. They are members of wrasse.
