First Time Fishing In 3 Years - Lake Bunga

Well. first time in saltwater in 3 years...My house sitting has kept me inland for a few years. So it has been fresh water for me for way toooo long. Finally I got a gig on the coast :)

15 minute walk to the beach (3 minute drive).

2 star day fishing the last 45 minutes of the Minor time. Location, Lake Bunga beach, Victoria, Australia.

The top fish is an Australian salmon (aka sambo). The bottom two are tailor. The two tailor I got in 2 casts with my last 2 baits :)

The photos look awesome!! Australia is a vast country. How exciting it is to be back to the coast!
Good catches after the long waiting time!!

P.S The t-shirt looks like new and you look very nice on it.
Haha...It is new 😊 Only been put on twice and both times just for a photo op...It is a one-of-a-kind you know 😊 That is why I am not holding the fish, don't want to get the T-Shirt dirty :)

This is the end of the beach...The other side of that cliff is 90 Mile Beach which goes for about 145km of just sandy beach...

This is looking back the other way (West). The house I am sitting is right down the other end on a hill over looking the ocean :)

This is the exact spot where I caught these nice fish. You see that little wave breaking in the back ground? Then there is a smaller wave right on the sand...Well, that indicates a channel or gutter. Deeper water between the first wave break and the second. So I dropped a pillie in there. Not much more than 30 feet out (about 10 meters).

Oh and that bird is an Albatross that tried very hard to take my fishing spot 😊
mate, how did you survive the last 3 years without fishing?

Great catches. Glad you finally got to wet a line.
On the first look I thought they were all Australian Salmon.

Did you smoke them up?
3 years since SALT WATER fishing...But it has been a bit shaky...:) Mate there is only so much a man can take of fresh water before the tremors start. Bad scene :):)

No, it is good. The taste of salt....oohh yeah :)

There is a dead seal up the beach....mate for the past 3 years all I have seen is dead kangaroos !! :)

Oh yeah...smoked tailor...But nope,,,Them been vacuum packed already. My next house sit is once again at Boree Creek a zillion miles from any salt. But I already have some "fresh as you can get" tailor packed and frozen.

I know I will get some more salmon. But, with a little luck and the right fishing times, I might stock up on some more tailor. Maybe some flathead too.

Side note mate....keep an eye on ya misses....I think she has the hots for my T-Shirt....well she can't have it !! It is a one of a kind. It was custom made...I will go back to fresh water before I part with it haha :)

Are tailors and aussie salmon quite similar in taste and texture?
We don't get tailors over here as far as I know but we get Kahawai, which are the same as your salmon.

Well fresh water fishing is quite fun too. I'm now on a mission to catch some south island salmon.

yeah gotta keep an eye on the missus. Seems she's up to something :-)

No.

In Victoria Australian Salmon are considered good eating. Just about every where else, they are considered good for fish cakes. I reckon they are OK. If the blood line is removed then they are quite good. This one I caught has been minced for fish cakes. Yeap, same fish as Kahawai.

Tailor are far better eating. Often smoked. They are a little bit more oily than salmon. Great on the BBQ. Tailor are good for foil baking with spicey things like garlic and chilli.

You might know tailor as bluefish. As far as I know, tailor are found right through out the Pacific. So maybe they are called something else in NZ.

Tomorrow I arrive back in Lake Bunga.

Same place I house sat before...This time for about 3 or 4 weeks.

I managed to get my 12 foot Alvey out of storage. It's an Ugly Stik (of course) with a 6000BC-V Alvey. That is the one with drag, fish alert and water channels so if you drop it a quick swish gets rid of any sand and you are good to go. It also has a 2 speed wind handle...Worth taking a look at !!

I also have some more T-shirts coming. Hopefully the shirts will arrive in time...But of course it means I will have to catch lots of fish to give each T-shirt time in the spot light :)Â
