I often spend a whole night trying to hunt down a river mulloway, usually around new moon or 3-4 days after. I Have tried all types of techniques. I catch the live bait and let it do it's thing but it is a patience game. I had 3 hits around the last new moon on an all nighter, unfortuantly every line gave way to the massave runs. Last night near the narrows i had a live tailor and it went for a big run. I used a uni not to join my braid to leader this time. For some reason this knot seems to be more efficiant than a swivel as i landed my first fish which gave me curry for an hour and a half, so many times in the past i had run and then a snap of as i was to keen to tighten the drag thinking the run was over,Now that i have experienced this i have learnt to compose myself and suss out my drag limits as that bait can be spat after a few runs, so you must be patient. Is a uni knot stronger than tying a swivel , the fish was around the 20kilo mark. Has anyone had similar techniques or more effecient ways of targeting mulloway in the swan river. Ocean mulloway tend to be a easier catch from expierience as i have had half as many problems with hooking them without spitting hooks.
