Here is my fishing report for August - fishing shallow waters around
Aucklands East Coast.
Wen't out two days ago (25th June 2012) in South East Auckland.
Was a perfect day for early morning fishing.
Low Tide and major fishing times just after sunrise.
Fished near a reef in about 5-6 meter deep water.
Awesome action for about two hours. Heaps of Snapper and Kahawai.
Released heaps and took home two nice keepers for dinner.
Caught all fish on softbaits.
My favorites are gulp cajun chicken and lime tiger ( 5 inch)
There was another guy fishing of a yak - about 500 - 800 meters away in slightly deeper water, fishing with gulp nuclear chicken. He didn't catch anything.
Lesson learned: location is as important as fishing times.
You gotta move around until you get bites.
Don't fish a spot longer then a few minutes. If you don't get bites - there probably aren't any fish.
Once you get a bite mark the spot on your GPS and start drifting from this coordinate.
When you get less bites go back to the GPS spot you marked and start drifting again.
Alternatively anchor in a good spot. Then use baited hookes and berley up well before the fishing times start. It takes a while for fish to arrive when using berley. Gotta be a bit more patient. Personally I don't like this fishing style. It's a bit too boring for me.
I'm rather on the move and find fish rather then trying to attract them to me.
