Catching BIG river PERCH

check out our latest video on perch fishing. Managed to catch my personal best at 43 cm on a rapala lure from my paddle board.
Good fun fishing for them in a nice slow flowing river.

Nice size :)

Excellent eating. The smaller ones are really nice on a camp fire. Just push a stick from head to tail then cook at the side of the fire.
That sounds like my kind of food! Sadly, we have many places, pretty much most of NZ camping areas are fire banned.
Do you leave the scales on?
Yes Daz, leave the scales on. The scales and skin will keep the moisture in. I just gut them then push the stick (or skewer) from the head to the tail. So you go through the mouth then into the tail...Going the other way is harder because you have to pierce the tail skin from the outside if you get what I mean.

You should be allowed to have a raised fire ?? Or even a charcoal BBQ ?? A lot of places in Australia don't allow camp fires on the ground, but a raised pit type fire is fine.
