how's the fishing at your part of the world at the moment?

Yeah spinner can definitely be used for saltwater fishing.
They work best for top water fishing, trolling or casting around river mouths.

What kind a spinner do you have?

It is great fun to catch Kahawai(Australian salmon) with silver spinners for me. A very active way to catch feisty fish.

I thought he meant spoon type spinners which are intended for fresh water. Which as Mark says can be used in salt.

But if he means the solid type spinner then, yes, they are intended for salt water. Long cast and fast retrieve. Best on the beach or off the rocks.
