Shrimping - Clay County

Moved up here to Green Cove Springs from the Gulf Coast in Citrus County.  New to the shrimping game.  Any suggestions, tips, or spots the hubby and I can go in Clay County to learn this new hobby before frustration takes the joy of fishing from our souls?!?!?  ?

We fish from the docks and have a canoe.

Hi Kim,

Welcome to Fishing Reminder :). Great photo, looks like a perfect fishing spot.

Nothing is capable of taking fishing from the soul...Hang in there!! We are here to support you...Don't let the frustration of having a hubby turn you to the dark side 😊 :)

We call them prawns here in Australia. We usually get them on the "run". I would assume that you would have "runs" too. Just Google "shirimp runs" or similar for your area. I have never thought of it before, but maybe the FR times might work for prawn runs...This requires more thought :)

A canoe can work especially with two people. What we do here in the land "down under" is anchor the boat side on to the current flow. Then use a spot light and a simple scoop net and just scoop up the prawns as they come past. But with a canoe a side on anchor would be risky. But you could anchor one end so that the canoe is pointing into the flow. Then have two lights (one each side of the canoe) and both scoop up the prawns.
