The Last 2 weeks have been the very best fishing for me. I am 71 years old fished all my life mainly from a boat. But a bad back has ended that , so I fish from the bank in ponds, lakes, creeks and rivers.
In the past 14 days, I have caught my best 2 PB Bass records. In 3 different ponds, that I am allowed to fish. The bass in the Columbus area have not started to spawn just yet, give it 2 weeks and it will be great. I went to a pond 2 weeks ago and caught a 5.81oz. bass on a Bagley Small Fry yellow belly Bream. There are a few large bass in this pond, but hard to catch. The owner wants only catch and release, so a lot of the bass are 1 to 1 3/4 pounds. I caught a 5 and 1/2 pound bass in this pond 4 years ago , but nothing large since then. Caught both bass on the Bagley Wake Small Fry Bream same color.
5 days later, I went to the 2nd pond and caught a 5.86oz. pound bass on the same Bagley Wake bait. The bass broke the plastic bill off of my bait, but the tie is to the nose of the bait. This bass was around the roots of a willow tree. 1 hour later, I caught a PB bass on the willow tree roots, that weighed 6.12oz . I caught it on a Mega Bass Griffin bait, that is 1 and 3/4 inches long. The bass was hooked in all six hooks, 2 of the first hooks on the first hook broke off.
On Thursday May 14, I caught a bass that, broke my PB recorded. It weighed 6.14oz. This bass was caught on a custom yellow bream Wake bait. I fish a lot of wake baits in ponds that have a lot of surface grass. When it gets a little warmer, I fish frogs and plastics over and through the moss. Never have I caught this many large bass near the same time frame. most of the years ,I catch 1 or 2 5 pounders and that's all.
