Cod Season 2019

Today is the opening day of cod season...Murray Cod, that is.

Being Sunday I would imagine plenty of people would have been at and on the river. I am not silly enough to go near the river when opening day is Sunday 😊 But I will be hitting the river right through the season. Now that I own a house half way between the Murrumbidgee and Murray rivers I have no excuse.

sounds great. What's the Murray cod fishing like?
I would assume spin fishing with artificial lures would be the way to catch them?
Are they good fighters?
The fishing is excellent.

A lot of people use flashy spoon type spinner lures. But I reckon the all time best bait is bardie grubs. Earth worms are also very good...Or smelly cheese.

Yes, cheese. Cod don't like cheese but the fresh water prawns in the rivers do like cheese. The prawns swam on the cheese and along comes Mr cod and grabs the prawns along with the cheese and hook.

Yes they put up a fair fight. You also get yellow belly (golden perch) among the cod, which I think are better fighters.
