Whenever I tell people that I do a bit of drone fishing, I get mixed responses.
Some think it’s really cool and love the idea of using modern technology to assist in fishing.
It’s fun to have a chat with them and talk about the possibilities and limitations.
They are interested and open to new ideas and want to know how it all works.
But then I also get quite a few that are totally against it and literally hate me when I mention drone fishing.
They usually start telling me that it’s cheating and drones should be banned.
For some reason they love the idea of shooting down drones with a shotgun.
Today I was talking to one of them. We almost got into a fight. ?
I mentioned drone fishing and he got really upset about it.
Then he went on about electric torpedo fishing and how these guys are all plundering the ocean.
And can you believe it - after some more ranting he told me that he's into kite-fishing, LOL ?
I asked him what’s the difference between kite-fishing and drone fishing and he got all upset again.
Telling me how much skill is required to do his kite-fishing and that you need to know about the wind and blah, blah.
He basically told me that if I have to ask what the difference is then I’m too stupid to understand.
I then asked him if he even ever tried to fly a drone (it actually requires some skill).
Of course he would never even dream of trying that.
Flying out his line with a kite was totally fine, but using a drone to get the line out was unacceptable.
So I was wondering - is drone fishing really cheating?
If so, then what about fish finders, kayaks, boats or any other tools to catch fish?
Is only drone fishing cheating and anything else acceptable? But why the hate for drones.
They are just another tool to get the bait out to where the fish are.
Or should we only try to catch fish with our bare hands or ancient gear from now on so that we’re not called cheaters?
