What's "soft baiting"? And what a trout that sucker is!!! Don't think my ultralight would've landed that one, lol.
Soft plastic lure 😊
Hi Chris
Can't tell you as yet to go out for some tuition. Little rubbery lures that as far as I know you fish them above the trout. They have a 5.5gm head. Watch this space
Does Trent have a web site ? I found plenty of Facebook entries but just wondering if he has a site 😊
I got quite a few trout on softbaits this season. Great fun.
Used the same softbait setup that I use in saltwater for snapper.

The 3 inch gulp smelt minnows were the ones I got most hits on.
I used them with very lightweight jig heads in rivers and lakes.

Are they unscented Mark?
they are scented, I think all gulps are.
Used to be that they were only allowed in waters were bait fishing is allowed.
But the rules have changed in some places and now you can use them in many waters where lure fishing is allowed.
Not in New Zealand Mark, unfortunately. :ermm:
😊 if in doubt then better not use them

I think it depends on the area. In many areas in NZ the scented ones are now legal to use were they weren't previously.
They sell them in all trout fishing shops in the South Island.
But have to check with fish and game. I see if I can dig up a link.
The ones I showed are made by Trent the Guide and unscented. $2.50 ea
they look good. I kinda doubt that it makes a difference in strikes if you use scented or unscented.
I think it's more the action and presentation of the lure that will induce a strike rather than the scent.
Thanks for the tips guys. I'll try this.
