Ice fishing and global warming

Damn global warming has just about ended my ice fishing season several weeks early!

Yeah...Imagine how the dinosaurs felt. They got smacked with a big rock from outer space which stuffed up their fishing too :)

Prior to that, there was no ice on this planet.

It has only been 65 million years...Maybe the planet is starting to settle back into it's normal orbit ??

For about 4.5 Billion years (that we know of) this planet we call Earth had no ice. Sea levels were about 300 feet higher than they are today. For hundreds of millions of years dinosaurs and other such creatures roamed this world...then, bang...a big rock from outer space and the orbit was sent askew and we ended up with dead dinosaurs and ice...

It is still early days. 65 million years is like yesterday for the age of the planet. give it some time. Things will settle down again. You might not be ice fishing when things get back to normal. But I am sure you will still be fishing 😊
What about the ice age wasn't that part of the extinction of them huge reptiles! I'm not looking for an arguement on the above mentioned. I'm just bummed about the warming trend these last few years. February is supposed to be the coldest month of the year and instead of subarctic temps it's frick'n50°hotter than it should be. What happened to the good ole record cold spells and the-20--50°, temps we used to get? Which don't get me wrong them really cold days at work sucked(nights for me)but I hardly notice the temps when I'm consistently pulling jumbo yellow perch, and walleye's and pike that get stuck in my 10inch diameter holes! Maybe I need to migrate further north to deal with the ever changing climate!
With that rapid climate change you better stock up on mozzie spray and prepare yourself for year round tropical fishing.

Heading further north might give ya a couple more years ice fishing.
But eventually your only chance would be to live long enough to outlive the global warming and wait for the next ice age 😊
There is no argument :)

From what I understand, prior to the big rock the only ice was very small polar caps. Affectively no ice.

The latest ice age began about 2.6 million years ago. It surges back and forth...cold then hot. Technically we are still in the latest surge of going back to hot. The latest cold surge began 110,000 years ago. Although it was just a surge of the overall ice age that has been going on for the past 2.6 million years, we commonly call this surge an ice age. That cold surge ended 11,700 years ago and we are now in a hot surge. There are still 3 major ice sheets left from the last cold surge, which means the warming surge has not finished yet, which means the planet is still getting hotter.

You might need to move a long way north 😊
