where did you catch it? Looks like it's got some whiskers or feelers, like a catfish.
Looks like a goat fish mate. (Upeneus tragula). Can grow to 250mm in length. Apparently a good table fish when eaten fresh rated 4.0/5.0. No size limit or bag limit.
Looks very much like a bartail goatfish to me...But I might be wrong :)

EDIT: Hi ozwi09, welcome to Fishing Reminder...Two votes for goatfish :)
Yep you would be right mate. I should have been more specific since there are about 7 different types of goat fish I think. Bartailed looks correct. Cheers
Hi ozwi09.

You sound like you might know what you are talking about 😊 and I picked that up in just 2 posts...

Welcome to fishing Reminder. We hope you stay around here for a while. It is not a bad place. What part of the land down under does you hale from?
Thanks mate. I have an awesome app called idFish which is a massive help when Im not sure what it is Im looking at. I think it cost me something like $12. Well worth it. Check it out. Im in Yeppoon on the Capricorn coast Qld. Home to the beautiful Keppel Islands
Yeppoon is a great part of the country...I am house sitting just south of Wagga Wagga, but I will be heading north soon. I got a 5 month house sit 2 hours north of Wagga starting in April. So still land locked. I just got myself a big 4WD, so I am hoping to get into some Murray Cod and Yellow Belly soon.

That sounds like an interesting app. I haven't looked at. I will check it out. Cheers
hey mate ozwi09 I was in Yeppoon on Thursday. we should catch up over a beer at the spinnaker......

We hail from down near Brisbane normally, the fish was caught over on Stradbroke Island.
Its pretty good. You put in the mist distinguishing features of a fish and it throws some ideas at you including photos. You can also keep track of your catch on a trip log so you dont go over your boat limits
great catch Dylan
It definitely  is a goat fish. it's meat, has a solid texture, and is edible, it is however too small and too scarce to feast with. Better to let go when caught. Cheers!!!
We call it Goat Fish
Northern bait... just sayin.... lol
