Yellowfin Tuna off Mazeppa Island

neeeeel says:
Just the other day we experienced some good offshore water being pushed inshore due to wind and currents , bringing with it most of the deepwater species.
I was fishing light [ loomis 12ft rod and daiwa regal 4500] and was using a spinner.Picked up this yellowfin of 4 kg !excellent fish to fight , took 120m of braid on first run.

Hi Mate

That is a really cool catch. Looks a bit like skipjack tuna - sure it's yellow fin?

Where is Mazeppa Island?

These fish are real fighters. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers
Real yellowfin cant mistake yellow pectoral fins extra long and yellow barbing above and below tail.
like i said took 150m of 25lb braid on the first run , ran 3 times then died.
thanks for clarifying mate.
I'm not very good at identifying tuna, only know them from pictures

Would love to catch some sometime.
Here in New Zealand I think we only get skipjack tuna further inshore. They are supposed to be really good too and strong fighters. But you gotta be really lucky to get one from a kayak, I guess.
Never heard of anyone getting them directly from shore over here.

What do you normally get when you fish spinners of the rocks?
Good catch! mazeppa's one of my favourite places to fish and also enjoy the breath-taking scenery
