targeting kingfish from a kayak in New Zealand

markt says:
I want to learn more about catching Kingfish off a kayak around Auckland.
It's very exciting for sure. I have caught two so far and it was pure adrenaline.

That problem is it was more luck then anything else when I caught them.
I want to target them directly. My biggest problem is finding them.

Not sure if that is even possible on a kayak, cause it seems you would have to go quite some distance to find them and perhaps travel rather quickly to some bird workups.

Would be great to hear if anybody has any experience and success catching kingfish from a kayak.

Hello,

as I have never fished from a Kayak I would not know the experience BUT where Kingfish is concerned we in the gulf Middle east area catch them regularly on Balyhoos especially the live onest they cannot resist.so I guess if you trawl with a balyhoo Im sure you will strike...morning hours before sunrise was the best and just before dusk....we have landed them in the afternoon time too but in the season time and on high tide..you do not have to go far to get them from the shore I have caught mine up to 10kgs ( 20pounds) from beaches casting with a 3.5 rod and on a 50 dia berkley line.
cheers and all the best...jude
