solunar theory and freshwater fishing

askFM says:
out of interest, do you also use the system for fresh water? results?

FYI, I've only very recently finished reading Knights book, Moon Up Moon Down, and it surprised me that much of his fishing was fly fishing for trout and bass (from which he largely developed his solunar theory)........ie I'd always thought this information was soley salt water related

I use the system for freshwater fishing myself with great results, for instance this nice trout was caught during a major time around noon in a lake on the south island, NZ.

yeah actually John Alden Knight was a keen freshwater fly fisherman.
He wanted to develop a reliable system for predicting the feeding behavior of fresh water fish.

Because tides have such a strong influence on the feeding behavior of saltwater fish, he was trying to apply tide times to freshwater fishing too. In his first attempt he even called this "inland tides". To calculate "inland tides" he had to look at the underlying forces that cause tides in the oceans.

The Solunar Theory was born because moon and sun are the causes for tides and also all other natural rhythms on earth.
Knight discovered that animals follow those rhythms in their natural feeding behavior.

Over time his findings proved to be very effective in predicting the peek feeding times of saltwater and freshwater fish as well as all other animals that live in a natural environment.
Mark, been looking at different solunar systems and none seem to offer an overlay of solunar times and tides - graphically. Is this possible and/or does your payed system offer this?

This would provide the tides which are useful for planning trips and then obviously Solunar times which add the extra important value

Hi Strawberry

Its not yet possible to view a graphical chart of tide times and solunar times.
But I'm actually planning to create such a graph in the near future.
Because I'm mainly fishing in saltwater this would be of great value for me too.

In the meantime it is however already possible to quickly compare the solunar times and tide times - just not graphically so far.

But bear with me - I need to finish some other bits and pieces first.

Do you have any suggestions on how you imagine the graph to look like?

I will provide my initial graph thoughts to you tomorrow with an example

ok - thats fantastic, thanks for your input. looking forward to see your example.
What happened to the solar table? I don't find it anymore.
looks all good - perhaps a temporary server problem?
which page were you looking at? the fishing times up top?
When I hit this link http://www.fishingreminder.com/fishing-talk/4-fishing-talk/19-solunar-theory-and-freshwater-fishing.html?limit=6&start=6#206
It takes me directly to the forum. It didn't do that in the begening.
o thats perhaps because I updated the forum software to the latest version.
The link above is right and should take you directly to this page. It might have been a bug previously.
Did it take you to the fishing times before the update?
It use to take me to a pape that I can't find now.
thats funny - what did that page look like? must have been a forum page according to the link.
I thought it was the log in page. About ½ way down the page there was box with the best time to fish. It had a black background.
sounds like its just the main page you are looking for?

http://www.fishingreminder.com
THAT'S IT!
I will save that link in my favorites.

Thanks
😊 glad we could resolve it.

You can also get there from any page when you scroll all the way up to the top and click on "Fishing Times" (top left corner)
No "Fishing Times" (top left corner) to be found in any corner here on my screen. But I have it in my favorites so I will be able to find it now.

Thanks again.
hmm thats strange - it doesn't look like this on your top left corner?

I have never seen that before now.
😊 can you make a screenshot of your browser window and send it through.

Maybe some display error - what kind of computer are you using?
Not sure I know how to make a screen shot of your browser window and send it through. This is my 4th computer, old IBM. I can snell a hook in a heart beat but I'm slow when it comes to computers.
haha - no worries.

another option could be to share a screen over skype. Don't know if you're a skype user though.

Its very strange that you can't see the top section of fishingreminder.
What is the very first thing you can see when you scroll all the way to the top of this page?
I know this is an old message, and you may have found an answer already, but here is mine just in case you haven't.

To do a screen shot, there is a button on your keyboard called "Screen Print", it's probably on the Top Row along with your F-keys above the directional buttons, or number key pad, depending on your keyboard, but it's there.... trust me...

Open a program that is capable of accepting cut and paste jpegs, or pictures, MS Word would be capable of doing this, but have what ever program you use open and in the background.

Go to the page you want to copy, adjust the page to the exact portion you want to copy, as this will only copy what portion you actually see. if you don't want to copy your cursor or pointer, move it off screen or to the lower portion of the screen.

Press the Shift Key in either side of the key board and depress " Prt Scn " This will basically do the same thing as Right Click as far as saving to your Temp file, But Note Right Click Won't WORK in this Function.

After you've pressed Prt Scn reduce the inter net screen, and go to your graphic program or MS WORD and navigate to the white typing area and then Right Click and Choose Paste.

The Screen Print should appear in a JPEG format where you can size.

you can save it in word or you can once it is showing in your program / MS Word, again press right click on your mouse and hit save image and then choose a Folder and File Name...

Hope this works for you.....

Mark, is this available on line or is it only available directly sent..... if the latter is true, please; I'd love to see it myself....

I have seen recently one of the Weather Dot Com's with various graphics and charts of time phased Historic Barometer Readings, Solunar Sun / Moon Rise and Falls, Temps Actual, Average, High / Lows, then Fishing Advisories of Best, Good, Fair and Poor.... by Month and day, looked nice, but really small and hard to read on line, would be better if graphic data points were made available and one could develop their own graphs, I'll try to dig it out, thought I saved to favorites however, not jumping out at me....

Do you mean the skype screen sharing from the last post?

Let us know if you can find the link of this weather site - sounds interesting.
