Hey Tui,

I haven't fished there for a while but should be pretty good near the mouth at bowentown.
It's all sandy bottom so not much chance of getting snagged. 
About 400 meters out from the beach should be far enough.

I saw a few kontiki out on the beach. Should work well with a drone. Good luck there! I miss the nice long beach in Waihi
