Oh No...Site is Broken

Hi Mark,

Looks like a gremlin is in the system. When I go to Fishing Times the page starts to load but then goes to Forum page.

I have tried a reboot. I am using Ubuntu (haven't used Windows for a few months now).

EDIT: I just tried all the other pages and they all work fine.

Hey Neil

Hmm - that sounds like it's a problem with your browser.
Are you using firefox on ubuntu and loading the page from a bookmark?
Maybe the forum page is stuck in the browser cache or the browser changed the bookmark somehow.

Have you got another browser installed to see if it does the same there.

Can't find any issues when I try to load the page from my end.

Cheers
Mark

Yes, Firefox. I have re-started 3 times and it is still doing it.

I have tried typing the URL and bookmarks.

I have Windows7 with IE also on this machine. I will try that next time I reboot.
It is working properly in Windows with IE.

It is still doing it in Ubuntu with Firefox.

It might be pointless but I might download Firefox for Windows and try it. But it is certainly not playing the game in Firefox for Linux.

Hmm. I'm guessing it's somehow got stuck on your Firefox. Maybe try to clear the cache.

What happens when you click on this link?

https://www.fishingreminder.com

Ha ha...The link says server not found. Might be because you left off the .com :)

As far as I know the cache is cleared on reboot. But I have now found it happens on every page. eg if I go to Catches and click on Fishing Times, it starts to load the page but then jumps back to Catches. So I can go to any page except Fishing Times.
you were too quick 😊 I corrected the link - it didn't get saved the first time.

But strange though that it jumps back to the page when you click on Fishing Times.
Did it work before though? Nothing has changed recently.

Firefox on Mac doesn't have any problems loading the page.
Yes, everything was working fine until yesterday about 2 hours before my OP above. Now it has changed in that every page jumps back. But I can go from any page to any page except Fishing Times !!

Maybe it is just me. But it is Linux (Ubuntu) and all my software is from the Software Center, so a virus is ruled out. But it has now changed in that it happens from any page (but still only jumps back from Fishing Times).

I might try a clean install of Firefox...Or maybe go over to the Ubuntu Forums and see if anyone else is having a similar issue.

I will get back to you shortly.
what version of firefox do you have?
did you update it in the last few days?
It is version 44.0
Ubuntu Canonicle 1.0

I have manual updates but with auto notification. The last update I remember was about a week ago.
OK...That link works :)

Same same...The link opens on Fishing Times no prob. But changing to another page and back to Fishing Times and the problem persists.
The plot gets thicker...

The problem remains. However, I have found if I wait about an hour or more it works, but only once. That is, if I leave the site open on Forum (or any other page) and come back in 1 or 2 or 3 hours I can click on Fishing Times and it works, But if I then go back to Forum I cannot get Fishing Times to open. But if I then wait again for a few hours it works (but only once). If I wait that few hours and refresh the Forum page, I cannot open Fishing Times.

I am not a big internet surfer, so I just looked for a dozen or so other sites that have multiple pages. I have not found another web site that duplicates this problem. I have tried 5 or 6 different browsers and only Firefox 44.0 under Ubuntu is doing this, that I can see.

I have installed Chromium (the Linux version of Google Chrome) and it works a treat. But only Firefox is supported by Canonical (Ubuntu). I would rather be using a supported browser so that I don't have to manually check for security updates etc.

hey mate. sorry for late reply. been having a bit patchy internet connection while camping :-)

very strange problem indeed.
I currently don't have a ubuntu installation for testing.
But firefox on mac and windows doesn't have this issue.

What you could try on ubuntu is to create a new fresh user account.
Then login with this user, open firefox and check if it still does it.

This way we could figure out if it's firefox in general for ubuntu or if it somehow only got stuck in your firefox profile.

cheers

Hay Mark. That is interesting because I thought you had fixed it. About 2 or 3 hours after my above post (3748) it started working properly.
ha - that's strange indeed.
Funny how things always tend to sort themselves out after a while :-)
Maybe firefox got updated again on your system?
