Hi there Manish,

welcome to fishingreminder.
For the best times and days - just check fishingreminder.
Go during the major or minor times and see which work better in Hobart.

Are you fishing from the shore?
I don't know any fishing spots around Hobart. Maybe someone here can point you in the right direction.
Are you trying to catch saltwater fish or freshwater?

Check google maps (sattellite view) for headlands around the area that are accessible by foot and have some good deep water in casting range. If you go out during major or minor times you'll probably see other fisherman around wharfs, headlands or other good fishing spots.

cheers
Mark
Hi Manish,

Welcome to the world of fishing...and welcome to Fishing Reminder.

As the name implies, you can use the Solunar clock to predict the best days and times. You can use email settings to get email reminders.

As for location, I have never been to Tassie. Looking on the map, maybe Errol Flynn Reserve and Short Beach on Marieville Esplanade at Battery Point might be a good choice for a first ever fishing trip. It has what looks like a good beach / sand area. A small creek at the north end. To the south and across the road, is a jetty and what looks like a boat ramp. The small headland looks like it is man made and quite rocky.

So there is creek, sand (beach), jetty and rock fishing all within walking distance. By the looks of it, a pretty good location for a first time ever fishing trip.

Let us know how you go 😊
Hi,

I too have recently started fishing. In Hobart there are many places to fish in the area. Best advice. Find the bait shop i the area and ask them. there is one close by, I know. But right in Hobart is Lake George. A very good spot. And the Brick Yard there is also very good. there are lakes everywhere in that area. We are blessed to have so many fishing spots. Cedar Lake is also a very good spot.
Good Luck.
Jim

you have to click on the little 'insert a link icon' and paste the url there, then it works 😊
local fresh or if possible live bait. Burley constantly with old pilchards and or bread. Try  fishing either a couple of hours leading up to high tide or a couple of hours leading down to low tide when the current is moving. Preferably early morning or leading up to sunset when the above tides coincide. And patience, if you don’t catch anything try little variations on wheee you cast or type of bait or change hook and sinker sizes. Mate  I fish every day land based and  catch everyday. But. Still I think the best advice is be patient but keep trying new techniques in differ spots until things work
Hi. Also new to fishing. Question...in your message you say couple of hours leading up to high tide. Then you say a couple hours leading down to low tide. So, does this mean just prior and just after high tide? Or, do you mean just prior to high tide and then later just before low tide?

We fish in the Central West coast of FL

Hi Marianne,

Welcome to Fishing Reminder :)

There are no actual rules as such, but when talking about tides it is usually just like telling time...

When the minute hand is going from 12 to 6 it is "past" and when it is going from the 6 to 12 it is "to".

So when the tide reaches half way it changes. So the "lead up" to high tide is more than half way between low and high. So the first few hour after high it is after high but not yet leading down to low.

So yes, he means prior to the high and prior to the low.

Does that make sense?

Just follow the Solunar clock and then you don't have to worry about it 😊
Thanks for the 'visual' explanation!
Fishing is completely crazy.

Someone will tell you to fish thu the change of tide ( high or low) others will tell you no flow no fun ( meaning the tide should be in full run in or out )

I firmly believe you simply need a hungry fish swimming past your bait that it happens to like and bingo- fish is on !

Structure of any sort seems to be the only true help in finding fish.
