Hi Sheddie,

The Hastings area is pretty good for fishing.

What have you tried so far? If you can fill us in on what you are doing, then some of us might be able to fill the gaps on what you are not doing.

Cheers
Neil

G'day Neil, I haven't been fishing for years but used to a lot back in Tassie where I'm from. Last trip was for blue fin with my brother in his 35ft Bertram off Tasman Island. Got beach fishing gear, bought a new reel and packed it with braid. Would love to get onto a snapper asI've never caught one. Love going after flattie with silver wobbler. Was wondering if any reasonable beach fishing on the peninsula that's not shoulder to shoulder with wave floggers
Hay Tass...

I have never been to Tassie. My younger sister lives there...which is probably the main reason why I have never been there:)

This time of year the wave hoppers and droppers are out in force.

You are in a great location. It might just be a case of wandering around and find your own spot...If you don't like the crowds, then neither do the fish!!! The fish are not going to hang around with swimmers, surfers and a barrage of other noisy critters !!

Hmm. Ok I might give the wharf at Stony a go to start with then maybe off Somers yacht cub beach. Tassie, great place to visit but horrible place to live.
It must be a horrible place to live...My younger sister lives there and she is horrible !!! :):)

I don't see Somers Yacht Club. But I do see Hastings Yacht Club.

If it twer I, I would be throwing some soft plastics around directly north of that mooring straight out on the jetty. Between Pelican Park and Hastings Yacht is a jetty and half way along is a mooring. North side of that...If there is not King George and flatties there, then I am a monkeys uncle!!

Just south of that I see Western Port Marina. It looks like it is gated so you might have to walk in. At the eastern end is like a pimple forming the northern head of the marina entrance. For a stretch of 20 to 30 meters north is a sand flat. If you can't get flatties and whiting there, then there is something wrong.

Great Neil. Thanx for that.  Will check those spots out when the sun, moon and tides are right.
No worries :)

I am not sure if this is part of Cerberus or not. But I think it is -

Just tell them Itsaboat said it is OK...haha...Jokes aside, this looks like a good spot for snapper. Not far from you.

If it is part of HMAS Cerberus, then you will need to talk to the staff at the gate. They will direct you to the person that can grant a gate pass...but your luck with that is not good !!

Looking at the area, I wouldn't mind doing some fishing there myself. I am getting itchy feet up here in Wagga. No offence, but I don't know you or who you are. So subject to Cerberus giving a security clearance for you, I  would be happy to sign you in as a visitor and "escort" you for a days (or two) fishing.

Yes, I have a gate pass...Retired Defence Member !
I had top secret security clearance as an adviser to a former Federal Finance Minister and am ex-Army so getting a pass should be possible. Thanx for the offer to sign me in. I did basic training at Wagga then to Ingleburn Holding Coy then Pukka To Transport.pretty certain its Cerberus land otherwise it'd be bumper to bumper millionaires digs.
Ha ha...Was you a naughty boy ? :)

Why Ingleburn ? Or did you do your IET at Ingleburn?

No, that cannot be right !!

I am ex AACC so I know Pukka quite well. You could not have done IET at Ingleburn cos transport is at Pukka !!

I got a life time gate pass. They stuffed my back up. Hurts, but hey it is only pain. We move on. So I have a Retired Member ID card. Allows me on to any Defence Base (any defence base that we "know" about *wink*).

I was at Seymour maybe 18 months ago. They have moved the Pukka gates right up to near the HWY. Can't even see the MQ from the gates. The MQ used to be outside the fence but not any more.

But then again we have been at bravo for a decade or more. Some bases are still on charley. I believe that Richmond went to delta just before I arrived...But I digress.

Of course it would be bumper to bumper....That is why they give out gate passes !!! :):) and I just happen to have one !!

Again, no offence and I am sure you understand. If you ckeckout OK with SEC then lets go fishing!!

A side line. The house sit I am doing is not far from Wagga. I went through  1RTB in 86 in 3 platoon A Company and won the VASEY Award. Each Saturday I see the Recs in Wagga, can't miss them!!! I can see 1RTB from the road (the new overpass makes it even clearer). Can't bring myself to go in and watch a march out yet.
I was infantry at Inglebrn  in 69 but was shipped out to Pukka as a driver cos my eyesight was so bad. Guess they didn't want me to shoot any friendlies.
I got AACC cos I am colour blind...My only other option was medic hygiene !!

You done Ingleburn in 69 ?...I was just 3 yeas old then....I don't remember anything of it...I was only 3 AND it was the 60's !!
