Hi Warren,

Welcome to Fishingreminder.

Was that your first ever day fishing? WOW 3 fish...My first ever day was when I was 5 years old and I caught a fish. And I do mean "a" fish...one fish...but I was only 5 and that was 47 years ago! Well 47 and a half, but who's counting?

Hi thank you and no I have been fishing for about 11 years mostly just surf casting but now do a little bit of kontiki fishing -- boat fishing which is mostly charter boats and old time with a friend also some kite fishing when got day off and wind blowing in the right direction and strongoing enough.
Oh, I see. My mistake, I just assumed you were new to fishing. :)

I have never tried kite fishing. But I have done quite a bit of ballooning with live bait. Same idea...tie a balloon to the line and let the wind take it out. Here in Australia on the east coast we get westerly winds in the winter. Winter means cold water and the big pelagics like cold water and come in closer, well within ballooning range.
hi that's cool but i am just new to using the net to help.over the years i have noticed that things are getting a bit more difficult and the fish stocks are not as good as they were 10 years ago.
but that is another debate for another day.i guess some one will start it at some stage then i will get pulled in fun times a head.
now kite fishing - we use kites that we fly between 70 feet to 200 feet in the air and run a drop line from there down. with this style of fishing you can hall out 5 to 25 hooks depending on the size of kite you use.you can also run alive bait of a kite as well by using a release clip but only a few of us know how to do this.we run these kites between 200 to 1000 meters off shore.we can do this all year around as long as we get the winds going the wright way and strong enough. where i live i depend on se to sw winds.
if you want to know a bit more about our kite system go   www.Pauls kites .co.nz    there you will see the different  styles you can use as they range from rod and reel to hand reels to electric winches.

I can't find Pauls kites but I did find this site - http://www.fishingkites.co.nz/
