Landbased fishing spots in Wellington, NZ?

Karly03 says:
Hey there,

I'm new so I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Karly, I'm 21 years old, from Palmy. My partner and I are really into our fishing but we haven't been having the best of luck lately ☹️ haha. That's mainly because we usually go to Foxton wharf and get snagged! :laugh:

However, we are planning on going down to Wellington this weekend for a bit of a fish, so if anyone knows of any good fishing (surfcasting/wharf) spots in the Wellington region, we would love to try them out!

Thanks =)

Hi Mate

welcome to fishingreminder. I've never fished near Wellington.
Hope someone from this area can give you some tips.

cheers
Hi, I'm new to this website so hallo to all.
With regard to fishing in Wellington the wharfs are sometimes productive but mostly a lot of patience and burly is needed! Miramar wharf at the northern end of the airport can be good as the water there is deep and is always a popular spot, Seatoun wharf can produce many different species due to its proximity to the harbour entrance, the smaller Karaka bay wharf is once again sometimes good but beware of the snags if you cast directly out, they are the remnants of when that wharf was longer. Beach fishing at Breaker Bay can be ok, best in a northerly as the hill cuts the wind. Kawahai seem to be the predominant fish caught all around the harbour, there is lots of kelp growing around a lot of the more accessible shore spots so finding a possie can be a bit of a task. Good luck!
Thanks so much for that. We didn't end up going to Wellington on the weekend but we will definately be going in the near future as we are getting rather frustrated with foxton! Snag Central. We better start saving for a boat if we want to go fishing around the Manawatu area :laugh:

Thanks again 😊
