Princess and Queen Fishing

The Differences Between Princess and Queen Fishing
I recently retired and picked up the great sport of fishing again after 40 years and am loving every minute of it. My son has also picked up the pole, so I have a companion to join me in search of the bite. One night we discussed how much fun we were having and wouldn’t it be great if he got his girlfriend and I got the wife interested in fishing so we could all have so much fun. That fateful night was the beginning of what we have now labeled Princess and Queen Fishing…..here is a recap of a few events at the water to explain P & Q Fishing.
Princess Fishing
My son and his girlfriend(Princess) met me at a local lake before dawn. Princess was excited to be out fishing on a 95 degree day and spending “quality time” with her man and his dad. We soon learned that Princesses display certain characteristics when fishing……they do NOT touch worms to bait their hooks-worm guts on the hand unheard of especially after a manicure….they do NOT take their fish off the hook-their hands would smell like fish all day……they do remove vegetation from their line, but not happy about it…..they do share news of their conquests with their loyal followers-pictures of fish taken and sent to all social network sites friends from cell phone before next worm was put on line. I am proud to say as a Princess she showed a commitment to learn the skills of the sport for next time- baiting hooks, removing the catch and not sending out pics of 3 inch sunnies. Perhaps she thought this would elevate her to Queen status in the fishing royal family….as long as she doesn’t learn from my wife, The Queen Fisher, we may have a chance. Let me now explain the difference of being the Queen.
Queen Fishing
The wife(Queen) agreed to go fishing but didn’t understand why fish don’t bite all day and fit into her schedule. The Queen agreed to go to a local retention pond about 4 blocks away in case she needed to head home early. The Queen made it clear that she could lose interest in fishing real quick if she doesn’t catch anything…..as we are heading out in 98 degree weather at sunset. The Queen did not bait her hook or remove her catch and has no plan to do so in the future. The Queen did remove vegetation from her line, but wiped her hands on my pants so hers didn’t get yucky. The Queen managed to get line backlashed in the spool and blamed it on the reel and wanted to use my pole while I tried to fix the line in the dark. However, befitting of a Queen, she had a royal time. Caught a 1 ½ lb. largemouth bass with first cast using an artificial worm……phew the pressure was off me for her to catch a fish. She caught a few other bass as I struggled to catch anything. The Queen saw me hooking up a combo with a worm and lit night bobber……the Queen gets the new rig of course. My ego is restored a little when I hook a nice largemouth on the artificial Queen just turned over to me. While I am enjoying my battle with a 2 lb. fish, the Queen starts yelling for help because she has a huge fish on the line…..yea right. I get my fish in and head over to help the Queen with her “big one”. I almost wet myself when I see she has a largemouth over 20 inches and 4+ lbs. As I am removing the hook for my Queen she yells out every time the fish moves even though she is at least 4 ft. away. One thing the Queen lacked was technical savvy on taking a picture of the fish using her cell phone camera…..but she did text the Princess to make her aware of her royal superiority in fishing noting that her bass would have eaten the “guppy” she posted on Facebook for a snack.
Recap
My son and I will still take the Princess and Queen fishing, but on days that we don’t plan to fish much so we can keep their lines in the water. Plain facts are they caught the most fish and the Queen caught the largest fish…..kicked our butts. The Queen experience probably sounds bad…..it really wasn’t we had a lot of fun and will in the future unless my Queen reads this.
The thing I like best out of this is the reality check fishing gives us. You can worry about bait vs artificial, tackle, weather conditions, etc……etc…..etc. Ultimately, it is just about having fun. Who’d of thunk that a 60 year old Queen fishing for her second time would catch a fish that size out of a small retention pond on a cheap spincast combo….worm….and a bobber? Gotta love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
