Nice, I find it really hard to catch flounder on lures. Do you also get other fish on the same setup or does this area hold mainly flounder. Whenever I try targeting flounder on lures I get lots of unwanted by catch or get snagged on weed.

In this spot we only catch flounder on these Spro Jigs with Gulp. It’s 30-50’ deep, so you need 2 or 3oz jigs to stay in the bottom depending on the wind & tide current. The nice thing is that all the flounder we catch are keepers (over 16.5”), due to the size of the lures. You need to keep it bouncing up & down off the bottom to avoid snags - dragging the bottom will snag immediately. Other boats using live bait tend to catch a lot of under sized flounder. We catch stripers & bluefish on these same jigs off the jettys & around bridge pilings.

that's pretty cool. Do you just drift along with tides? What's your usual drift speed? Where I live most people catch flounder either gigging at night or in nets. But catching them with lures is way more fun.

we fish the last 2 hours of the incoming tide & drift with the tide. It can be tricky keeping your lure ir bait on the bottom if the wind & tide are going in opposite directions! In that case, I bump the boat along in reverse, to keep us at an ideal speed to keep contact with the bottom.

some good tips, thanks. I fish in in a similar way for snapper off my kayak - but planning to do a bit more estuary fishing soon and hoping to get into more flounder. Do you catch them all year round or only over summer?

Yes! My favorite fish to eat as well. But not the easiest fish to catch for me πŸ˜‚

Summer & early Fall are the best flounder fishing in the mid-Atlantic
