Nice catch. What is a Peacock bass? Where are you? Fresh water or ocean? Brian

The Peacock Bass is technically not in the Bass family. It's part of the cichlid family and is native to the Amazon, Brazil, and other South American countries. They were introduced to South Florida in 1984 to prey on other non-native species, Tilapia and Oscar They are a very popular sport fish here in South Florida and are caught in fresh waters.

Do other cichlids get that big too?

The Emperor Chiclid and the Wolf Chiclid grow very large also. Those fish to my knowledge are usually found in South American waters and not in South Florida.
