Very nice catch. I hope you catch some more of them.
Are they tasty? Brian

Thanks! I think bluecod is the most sought-after fish to eat in New Zealand. Everybody's fish. The taste is really mild and clean. White flaky meat. Very easy to prepare, no need to worry about overcooking it

lingcod is often referred as poor mans lobster if that gives you an idea of the taste and why its sought after.

Hi Chris. Blue cod is very different from ling cod. It doesn't have a meaty/stringy consistency like lobster or ling. It's very delicate - more like gurnard or snapper with a very mild taste.
We sometimes catch monkfish and scorpion fish which are a bit like ling cod and are also known as poor mans lobster.

oh, I guess it's good to have more fish called 'poor man's lobster'. Keep the poor men happier catching more lobster for them.???
